Let me first say I don't know what the %*$* I am doing just following what I remember as a kid. I ran my rocks through all four stages and the polish which I got from my father was a rouge and has tinted the entire stock with a pink cast. Can I remedy this I tried at the sink with soap and water with no luck. Perhaps a different polish or will a few hours of burnishing with soap chips take it away? :help:
thanks for any and all input!

you can run them again in just borax and water in a burnish stage that should remove most of the tint

Red rouge is a good metal polish. If burnish (Borax/water or Tide/water doesn't do it back up through the grit steps until you clean it off.

Hey guys/gals! Thanks so much for the info. After some internet research I realized that the rouge is used for bullet casing polishing (95% of hits on google search) and NOT for rocks. Why would that compound be bundled with rock tumbling grits 1-3? Hmmmmmm
To answer your Q, Daniel, No I am not trying to polish 40 yr old rouge tinted rocks, thank goodness, sorry I was not more concise with my thoughts. I have put the batch back into the barrel with soap shavings and water for a few days and we'll see what happens...............if that doesn't do the fix I will back up as JS gems suggested, To answer your other question Daniel...the rocks were from an Oregon coast trip a few weeks ago with our kids, hence agates, jasper, quartz, pet. wood etc.
Thanks all for yopur insight!!

Hi drewski,
You have a very interesting question !
Rouge is a Silver polish I use as a final polish on silver rings and pendants ect
Also it is used to control solder (it stops the solder spreading)
I wash my silver rings with a dish washing up liquid (this cuts the oily wax resedue)
You sound like you got a nice lot of rocks I hope you get some good C,O polish T,O polish or what ever to get a good polish on them rocks
If the wash dosent work go back one stage and add some Borax with the grit ,(as JohnS Gems advises above)
A quote from my colledge days "He who never made a mistake Never made anything "
All the best
