Cool stuff Don. I have some Mako teeth from STH. Beautiful! Can you still hunt there? I've heard it kinda goes back and forth.

Up until a couple of years ago if you joined the local museum association you could dig there with them on their field trips. Not sure if that is still the case.

Hey Curt, last I heard, the hill has been fenced and gated. They allow a couple of digs per year, but you have to be a member of the local museum, and pay a fee. The dig area is very restricted, and they go in with heavy equipment beforehand, and loosen the area of the dig. I've also heard that if you find something new or very rare, it has to be turned over to the museum. Not at all like it was when I dug there as a kid.

Thanks Lowell. I've been gone from Cal. since 96, and haven't dug there since the early 50's, so the only info I could find on the hill was on the internet.

Don,as I thought-those vertabres are from either a baculite or huge ammonite.(same family) I'm thinkin' baculite. I have many in my collection, even one with five pieces of vertabre......Cool finds as always........ We call them mud baculites, old and dry......

Cool. Thanks for the ID. I was sort of thinking along those lines, because of the suture lines, and what appears to be fragments of mother of pearl.
