Just finished another shell(off the beaches of the Oregon coastline).....This was mostly buried into the host rock, but got it worked out... Was going to hollow it out,but its to fragile.(Took off about 1/4 inch of matric to get to the shell..........) It does stand on its own........

Nice job for an ex N.D. guy. lol Hey' if you have an air compressor, Harbor Freight has a really nice mini air die grinder. Adjustable speed and all. It's about 3/4" Dia. X 6" long. super light weight and comfortable to use. The only drawback is it'll only take burrs with an 1/8" shank. It's the red one. the other is my $5.00 yard sale air scribe. Don

Nope,I have to get into the habit of before and after shots-huh.............LOL...If you look closely you can see where the matrics was on the shell(dark grey and white areas)-wasn't alot, but enough to make it work me a bit....

Michael, I have a dremel, what do I need to use to clean the fossils you sent me? I really want to get started on them soon and can you polish with the dremel as well?

Tanya What I use is a wire wheel and a few different types of sanding wheels............The fossil is stronger than the matrix,so it won't damage while working the dirt, matrix, etc out of the fossils... Just don't be agressive with your work.....(This is the sea clams and shells)..As for the baculites they just need cleaned and a good polish on them, either if cut or left the way they are.... Good luck..
