I picked up some wood today and found a few pieces of fossilized bone and something I couldn't identify but it looks neat. The bones are not hard or silicified, if that's a word. This matrix is hard as flint and there are a few shells in the matrix as well. I don't know what it might be. The end of the cylinder looks like it was a thin shell but it's not hollow now. Found quite a bit of wood, the knife in the center is 9" from tip to end. Some of the wood is destined for the garden and the interesting pieces will be tumbled. Have a great day!

Sounds like the bones may be leftovers from the last ice age. I find a piece in road fill from time to time, dug from our local gravel pits. A few have shown some replacement, but are for the most part still bone. That's a nice batch of wood. Some may be suitable for cabbing. Sure wish I could find large pieces of wood where I live. The glaciers broke everything into tumble size pieces. Don
