Hi Don And Brian, I have not done a presentation on your goodies yet but it will be soon. I do have lots of things from the ocean out for my students to see. One little guy named Mason was so excited he brought me what he called a Dinosaur Claw and a red racer's skin. How lucky am I to have these kinds of experiences every day with my students. I am sending you the picture of the rock he brought to me. It does have some wood attached on the end. Janet Attachments:

Wow ! You already have the kids bringing in stuff. How cool is that ?
After enlarging the picture, I'm going to make a guess of petrified coral. We have others who know much more than me about fossils. They can correct me if I'm wrong.

He found this in his back yard in Paradise. The light colored part flaked off like shards of wood. It looks like the rock we have around here.

From what i can see , it looks like a layered sedimentary rock .

The pieces that flaked off were soft so I think it does have a piece of wood in the end.
