Oh my goodness Don I had my class in for a presentation and gave them the gift you sent for them. I cannot tell you how excited they were. They didn't want to leave!!!! Now they want me to start a rock club. Bless you for gift and for making the presentation a bigger success. I am not allowed to take picutures but they will be writing a thank you, and I will mail them to you. My next session I will set up soon for what Brian sent to me for the students. What a great group of people you are. Read more: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=fossilsb&thread=47623#ixzz1YbfnB2Wb

Hi Janet;
I'm glad the kids liked their rocks. Wish I could have seen the expressions on their faces when you started handing them out.
As for the rock club, you may be creating a monster. It would probably be best if you can get your local rock club to sponsor a junior rock club. If the plan is to take them on rock hunting outings, the more adult supervision you have, the better.

I was thinking of maybe the students bringing in items to share and we talk about them and maybe bringing in a rock tumbler (the vibrating one) so they can see the process. I know they will bring in more than rocks though. Thanks again it was so wonderful. Janet

Janet, you may be better off using a rotary tumbler. It will get the rocks smoother, and take off all of the rough edges.
Be sure before you begin, to explain to the little munchkins that tumbling takes a long time. It's not unusual for a batch of rocks to take 2 months or more from start to finish.
Whatever you do, don't start out with a cheap department store or Harbor Freight tumbler. They don't last, and often break down before finishing the first load.

My ocean unit was an intro and then I talked about wood, different kinds of wood, polishing wood and what the result looks like and then your gift. It was awsome. Attachments:

I did talk about the length of time and I do have 5 rotary tumblers Lortone and a thumler but I am going to do several more presentations and then see. I don not get much time between all the classes so it is finding the time for such a club. I will work on it though.

Don I have some letters from the class of students that came to the library today. Could you send me your address in a private message so I can send them to you. Now these kids are only 7 and 8 year olds so some maybe hard to read. They are so precious though. Janet
