That's really impressive, Tyler! Out of curiosity, you mentioned you heated the lexan ... what did you use? The boxes came out nice. Paul

Thanks!
I tried heating the Lexan two different ways...
(1) Some of the heating was done with a Silversmith acetylene torch with a very soft flame. This method worked quickly but caused some slight bubbling in the surface. I bent those pieces so that the bubbling was on the inside of the box and essentially out of sight.
(2) I mostly used a Wagner heat gun which heated more slowly but worked well.
I understand that it is also possible to use a heat tape that is made for bending Lexan, but I never got around to buying one.

By the way, that was a great score on the lexan, getting at a discount like that. And the motor ... Pretty Cool! Thanks for the additional info - was curious on the heating trick.

Truly impressive!! Thanks for the vids, that baby does purr! I'd say you got a smokin' deal on that motor too, awesome!! Thanks. The motor purchase may be my best find ever. The guy I bought it from had bought it new for some type of conveyor work, but soon went out of business. He had a bunch of machinery taking up space at his house and just wanted to be rid of it. I couldn't believe my luck. The DC motor is so quiet and the controller allows great adjustability of max and min speeds, startup delay time, rpm variability around a mean, stop time, etc. It also hardly notices the load even when you apply hard pressure with a stone. It is truly awesome. Cheers, Tyler

Yes, the Lexan was a good find too. I was actually looking for some of the Sintra material that was mentioned in zarguy's posting, but ran into this instead. The Lexan is actually quite expensive to buy, but I got two big sheets of it for a song. I struggled with the cutting and box building until I read somewhere about heating and bending. After that, it was actually quite easy. I quite like the method I used to hold the carpet piece for spreading the water. It is invisible from the outside and works really well. It just required the boxes to be a little taller to make room for the Lexan carpet clamp (see photo).
