Curious what gauge metal people are using for pendant backings and other such setting work?
Also bracelets...what is common gauge for hammered bracelets and such? I was going to order some bulk sheet metal and want to know what to use to get started?
Thanks!

I can not speak for everyone but I use anywhere from 26ga to 22ga depending on what the final design will be. If the backing is going to be even with the side of the bezel I go with the 26ga. If the backing is going to stick out past the bezel or it is going to be textured or stamped then I will go with the heavier gauges.
As for bracelets I have used 22ga with good results for sheet and 14 - 12 ga for wire.

I use almost nothing but 24 ga. Been useing that weight for years & find it works great for just about any size I want to make. Mike

This what I have used for bezel mounting. Smaller belt buckles 20 ga. Larger belt buckles 20 ga plus 24 ga. Pendants mostly 24ga. and a few 28 ga. (depending on size) Earrings 28 ga. to lighten the load. Don

I use 22GA for most pendant backings, but with the price of silver I agree with the group here and will probably try 24 and 26ga I have only made wire bracelets and it depended on whether it was twistthicker) or woven(thinner). In both cases I have practiced in copper first
Good luck charlie
