Hi Everyone, Thought I'd post a few pictures of the porch I tiled over at Koning's rock shop in Morristown. I added a lot of rock slabs that Jim had out behind his house, it sure added some nice colors. No rhyme or reason to the pattern on the porch, I was just trying to use up all the tile I had laying around here from other jobs.... I like mosaic work though. I'd sure like to hear some opinions, any feedback is appreciated. Thanks a lot. Jamie

Simply gorgeous! So. Details, details! Did you polish all the slabs beforehand? What did you coat them with? Polyurethane? Sue

Oh Jamie, you did a beautiful job there girl and I'm sure Jim is tickled with the results. All the other rock shops are gonna be envious and will hire you just to keep up.
I cut your purple glass into small chunks and am taking them to Q to facet. If I do a good job, you'll get the best one!

That is one awesome floor. Sorry Jack but I think that it is a great place for the slabs because a huge number of people will see them and I wish that one of mine could have ended up there. Jim

Thanks for all the nice comments. Ed, it was concrete before I tiled it. Sue, I coated it with a concrete finisher, I was afraid to use the polys because they will turn yellow and when the porch gets wet, that would make it very slippery. Tile when it gets wet is slippery anyway. I shaped the slabs and every little piece of tile that went down before I laid it so there were no sharp edges. If I had to do it again I wouldn't use any whole tiles. The designs at both ends look like headless frogs to me. Jo, you wouldn't believe what happened to Jim, a rabid Javelina came into his yard, he was watching it through his window. He told me it wandered around for a bit then came charging through his back door, chased him around in his kitchen, finally caught him and bit him on the leg. He had grabbed it by the back of the neck and the rump and dragged it outside while it was fighting and gnashing to bite him again. His son showed up and shot it out in the yard but Jim had to get the series of shots for the rabies. He just finished with them last week. How bizarre is that?
If anyone ever stops by his little shop, just knock on the door, he will always open the doors for anyone. He works at the firehouse in the afternoons so he is trying to be open at least until 3:00pm.
Thanks again for the feedback.

Jamie, it joins the ranks of just a few one of a kind rockhound creations. Like the countertop in the diner in Prinville, OR, there are just not that many archetectural celebrations of slabbed lapidary materials.
Kudos.
