Did it look like this? Lol, this is from Gem Hill, tons of it there. I was told it is jade. I'll send another pic of one really nice piece... Attachments:

Another piece from Gem Hill in Rosamond CA. This one is naturally smooth, I love it. It's jade, isn't it? That's what the guide book described for this location, jade and agate... Attachments:

My guess would be green common opal. If it's stable, it will cut pretty cabs that take a great shine. Don

Welcome to the forum, kaylix24! You've got some great places to go rock hounding out your way. My boys and I are sometimes that side of town. Maybe we'll run into each other one day.

Rocks: Like Don has said, lots of green opal and jasper at Gem Hill. I've heard the jade story but all I've seen there or from there are quartz gem materials like agate, jasper, and opal. Normally jade occurs in much different geology, usually with iron rich serpentine and other similar metamorphic rocks, not the basalts, rhyolites and andesites associated with volcanic deposits yielding quartz gems.
kaylinx, welcome to the forum. You're right next door to tons of agates over around Horse canyon and points east of there. Lots of palm root, moss agate, plume etc if you can get any kind of access...Mel

Hello Shawn, Welcome to the forum. You will find a lot of useful information on this board so keep asking as there are a lot of helpful people here. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley near the San Fernando Mission, so I know where you are geographically. I now live in the Sacramento area and there are a lot of places to look for rocks. Mostly Granite in this area though. However, there is also a lot of Quartz rock and I tumble a lot of that. Anyway, welcome and have a good time and tumble away.
