I bought some no name 8x3" expandos, probably Chinese. Some of the drums are so tight, I've spent 15 or 20 minutes trying to get a diamond belt onto one of them. It's on about 3/4 of the way.
Any tips on getting belts on tight drums?

Lynn: Have you tried soapy water? I have just the opposite problem with two drums..too loose. Woody

Never dealt with an expando, but how about a tourniquet (heavy string, ribbon or whatever, big hose clamp) to shrink the wheel a bit ahead of the belt. And like Woody said, some lube.

Parfive, the string idea is what undertakers use to remove rings from fingers too. Check sizes too. A German came in looking for belts to fit an expando and his drum was a little smaller than the Raytech. The German premium belts Barranca sells are apparently for those as they are a real bear to get on. If your drum measures 8" or 6" across the standard belts should fit. If not you should check with the supplier for a solution.

Lynn, the 1200g Chinese belt I have from you was really tight going on my expando drum, but I got it on there eventually with some water. These belts go on much tighter than my 3m diamond belts.

Instead of soap and water, you could go to the drugstore and get a little bottle of glycerine to use as a lubricant. The plus side is glycerine acts as a preservative for rubber, as well as a lubricant. My expandos are at least 18 years old, and the rubber is still soft and pliable.

The glycerine is a very good idea, also leave some kind of belt on the wheel at all times and keep them away from direct sunlight, UV light also ages natural rubber quickly.

Hey Lee, I always take my belts off just long enough to let the rubber completely dry. Then the belts go back on and the drums go in a box and out of heat and sunlight.
