This past weekend I took 2 of the kids to a field with a group of rockhounds from Fort Collins, Colorado. The president of the group has permission to rockhound on some farmland. We hunted 2 strips of land that were plowed last fall for winter wheat, so new rocks had been turned over and brought to the surface. Here is a group shot showing the land we were hunting. Yep a plowed field: Here is the first piece of petrified wood that I have ever found. For all my years looking down and picking up pretty rocks, I've never found a piece of petrified wood before Saturday: Here is a pic right before the sun set. These are 2 of my 4 kids. They had a lot of fun and can't wait to get back out. Also, I found my second piece of petrified wood, pictured in my hand. It weighs a couple pounds and is in amazing shape. I also collected a nice batch of agates. hopefully some moss. I say hopefully because they all have a white layer that I need to clean off before I know what they look like. We also got a lot of really pretty epidote. I've posted a couple quick cabs in the cabochon forum. Thanks for looking!

Very cool for you and the kids. That is how we hunt for arrowheads here in Missouri, plowed fields after a hard rain. John

Another advantage to having the young ones along is being built closer to the ground, and have sharper eyesight. Let alone guiding them in a direction that can be productive, and rewarding. Woody
