I've been a rock hound for a long long time, I'm to the point that there isn't much I don't have. For a long while I have wanted to try polishing and shaping but the cost is just too much. Currently I have a bunch of odds and ends of different machines that I will be putting together now that I have looked at the pictures in the homemade section. Building stuff yourself not only costs less, but it's a lot of fun, for me anyway.

Hey Kevin, just south of you a couple of hours on I-77, about 20 miles north of Charlotte! Welcome to the forums, I've been gone for about half a year and just getting back up to speed myself.

Welcome from Virginia Beach! Hey, I'll tell ya how I got started.... a bench grinder with a silicon carbide wheel, a cheap tile saw and a vibratory tumbler. That's all you need to cab and should be able to get all for around $400. EDIT: forgot to mention, the stuff that I produced from my vibratory tumbler I sold at local craft shows, that's what paid for my slab saw and cabbing machine.

Listen to Randy...he knows what he's talking about...AND he SHARES! He has tutorials on this board on wrapping stones and he explains in details how he makes his necklaces. Very few people would be this generous. Welcome to the board from a "former Virginian"! Sue
