Howdy folks Last few days I've been hauling gravel to cover my deer and black feeding area. The feed area is pretty close to a little dry creek that has a lot of Amerind activity around. Found this crudely made dart point ( probably a discard) in a little wash out just outside my game fencing.

I have found some ( field grade ) I guess you would say, that were similar to yours. Some I had to look at several times before I was convinced I had actually found an artifact. I suspect that when the wife stuck her head out of the Teepee and said she wanted some fresh meat to put in the stew pot, you didn't spend an hour making a flawless point, you would bang out something real QUICK , lash it on a shaft , and, get your a$$ to lookin for supper !

I'm guessing points found near water/camping areas would likely be mostly rejects that were discarded while being made. I would think as much work as goes into making a point any lost hunting would be carefully searched for. Now I'll have to search my mostly dry stream bed when I'm in Texas this Spring. I've pretty much given up on fossils.

John. Yep I figured a reject too as I find a lot of that kind of stuff on that part of the property. Found half a point the same afternoon that was so thin and finely knapped that I'm not surprised it broke. Man I'd like to find one like that whole. Don't know how they managed to knap this tough flint that thin.....Mel
