Anybody with experience with Rock Rascal arbor (two wheel unit)? This unit is cheaper then Lortone Beaver. I am planing to buy one of those, but money is the matter. I am anxious to use diamond wheels that I bought and at this point of time I could buy that Rock rascal pretty soon. This is unit that I am talking about, but without motor and that base plate. The price is 120$ at Kingsley North. Lortone Beaver arbor is 155$ and since is bigger and heavier transport expenses are also bigger then rock rascal unit. Thank you in advance. Zotika

One of our club members has the Model-T (saw & 1 wheel). He uses it with an expandable drum, and does all his stages. He says it is well built, and like it.
So maybe this one is good too.

Thank you guys. I didn't decided, yet. Since I am impatient person (USA is so far away), maybe, I am going to try to make one by myself. But, on the other hand, I'll maybe just buy it and save some time. By looking at that picture it seems to me that water could be splashing outside of the unit since there is no water pan in front. However this arbor looks very well build, as Stefan said. hey zot cant help with the arbor info but i just sent for a diamond wheel from this joint to try out they have some great prices but dont know about quality yet -- i have bought diamond drills from them and they where as good as any ive bought with a better price might wanna give them a look www.richontools.com/catalog/c68_p2.htmlmine should be here next week i hope ill let ya know how they look and grind John, that link is very interesting. I am looking forward to see what is going to be your experience with their diamond wheels. What kind of wheels you ordered from them, plastic or metal? Prices are very nice. They also have 8" diamond blades for 14.90$ (also 4 " and 6" blades). Zotika

The Rock Rascals have Front Drain holes- to keep the water level from getting too high (and hitting the wheels) I have a similiar design with my Lortone and Since I alwys grind with fresh water I like this design- the only problems I have is when I forget to put the drain tube into a bucket- or when I forget to empty the bucket and it overflows!

Thank you, Stefan. I know about that drain holes. I am afraid that this could happened (since I am better in drawing than in English...): I was wondering is that shield efficient enough to keep water in the pan? I have that problem with my handmade grinder. Oh, by the way, I am so very familiar with bucket overflowing problem. Thanks Zotika

zot i grabbed the plastic core 8inch because the plastic is 1-1/2 wide and the metal is only 1inch wide i was talkin with a gentleman there (peter) and i asked if he would check the balance and see if the one hes sending will run true (no wobble) cause i realy didn't like the plastic hubs type and he told me it would run true -- and i told him id rather have a 2inch face and he said he was gonna get some when he gets done moving to a bigger place --- the shipping is high to the us but even with that its still a good price--- the last wheel i got for the big grinder cost me 165.00 plus shipping was a metal core and i think this came to like 92.00with shipping so its worth a try

I have the combo unit. Nice, solid unit. These have been around for years, so they are reliable. You may want to put a little flap on the top grinding wheel shield as the water does tend to spray a lot. I wish the saw table did not have the lip as it really limits the size of rough you can cut. But overall, a very versatile unit that doesn't take up much space.

I have a Lortone I got used and love it. It was either going to be a Rock Rascal or a Lortone for me. I started to make a grinder out of sheet aluminum and an arbor and decided I would end up spending more money on it in the end. I picked up a used Lortone two-wheel unit. They show up pretty regularly on Ebay and I just waited around for one that was cheaper (less people noticed noticed it).
I know about the bucket thing also. I know when it's time to empty the bucket when I'm standing in a puddle.
If you do make a grinder, I found that attaching a thick piece of cloth (like canvas or denim) to the hood so it comes down and almost touches the grinding wheel is a good way to keep the spray down. I make it about the width of the wheel. It also keeps the wheel wet evenly.
Good luck Steve

Bumping a really old thread here but does anyone know if this arbor is still in production? I recently was trying to find it but the few places I did find it for sale were websites that haven't been updated in many years. edit: Pearson's U.S. Lapidary and Jewelers Supply, Inc. is one and the other was a Grave's catalog in PDF format that I'm guessing is about 6-10 years old and it's not on their site although the site has ... issues. KN doesn't have it on their site either. I think I may have missed the boat.
