So many thanks are owed to folks for the polish on the stones in this pic. Most of all to connrock who pm'd me through every step of this. Special thanks to wampidy and bikerrandy for sending me slabs and other material, a well as giving me a lot of pointers. Clyde also called me and helped me through some cabbing dilemmas I was facing. The green, white, blue, and 2 pieces of quartz on the bottom-right belong to my daughter, and went into the little Lortone we bought her over 2 years ago and stopped when we got stuck back then and didn't know where to turn. She was so excited to see them come out tonight. Thank you all so much. Your generosity, patience, kindness and knowledge have made this happen and I can't say thanks enough. For those interested I posted more detail on the cabs in this photo in ths cabbing forum.

I'll bet it feels great to finish some you started 2 years ago. You're gonna need to start a tumbled rocks bowl or vase or jar to show them off. There's gonna be a few more in your future... ;D Jo

Thanks all, it does feel great. I even brought some to work to "show and tell" because I was so excited.
I like the setup of the constantly-tumbling rotary barrels and the weekly vibe escalation, I have about 15# of rock in the rotary now, a bunch of cabs and some tumbled stuff that is ready for the vibe tonight, and a whole lot of rough in the queue. With the ceramic media, I can dump in as much as I need to fill the UV10 so even if I only have a small amount of material (like what I showed above) I can still process it through the vibe stages.
The process feels sound and is a lot of fun.

Nice work John. I have a rotary and a vibe now too. My second batch will be done in a few days. It's nice to get past that first batch and then get more regular batches done. Is it bad that I already want a third tumbler? I'm going to resist the temptation! Now I'm off to order a couple rock books from Amazon.

Yeah Rob, always more to buy... I am going to let the rotary > vibe routine run a while since I think I will be adding enough cabs to the mix in the meantime to keep the vibe operating full time.
Eventually I'd like to have "enough" (HAHAHA) tumblers that I can feed a weekly supply of rock to the vibe, but given my cabbing interjections that may not be necessary.
I've been enjoying seeing your progress - so do keep posting as you move things along. I think having a number of folks going through this at the same time, each with some unique piece of the puzzle, will enable new folks to see better what their options are.

Those came out great, especially the finish on the marquise shaped preform in the middle. Really nice!

John it took me over a year to get my first successful load of polished rocks and I wanted to pack it in many, many times. The feeling I got when I rinsed off that load and saw I had finally got those rocks to shine was unbelievable!I must have looked at every single rock 100 times and actually ran up stairs to show my wife,,,who just grinned at me like I was a little kid!
I am soooooooooooooooooooooo happy that you got your 1st load to shine like they do,,,for you but mostly for Emma! She must be one happy little girl after waiting all this time for her "special" rocks to be polished!
You followed rollingstones recipe and procedure to a T and I don't think anyone here can argue about the shine rollingstone gets! The photos are inspiration enough!
You've done VERY well and I KNOW you will only get better!
