Hi I am a new member. I don't know where to begin but I like rocks so I will look around. I will try to learn without disturbing you with questions that are to dumb. What would be a good place to see nice pictures of rocks. Am I permitted to copy any pictures I see to use as a class project? I am dog sitting for one of your members and he suggested that i sign up if I am interested in learning about rocks. Thanks

Welcome aboard crystalrock. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I was always taught that the only dumb question is the one that goes unasked. We have lots of knowledgeable folks on here who are more than willing to answer questions.

Nothing here is copyright as far as I know. For a class project, copying pics shouldn't be any problem at all. Also, we don't mind answering questions. A good few people on here live to answer them, and we have some really knowledgeable people here too!

Hi everyone As I said when I joined I will not waste your time with any dumb questions. I have been doing a lot of reading and I think I would like to make cabs and wrap them in wire. What would you all think it would cost to get set up to make cabs. From what I have read it looks like there are two ways. Wheels and discs. What are expando drums and what is sic? As far as getting set up I would like to go new. I am not a good fixer uper Thanks

Hi and welcome. Expando drums are rubber wheels used to hold sanding belts. Either diamond or silicon carbide belts (called either SC or sic). You will need a trim saw and either a flat lap cabber or a unit with wheels. Flat laps are generally lower cost than multi wheel units. If budget is an issue you can buy cabs and learn the wire wrap first. Wire wrap can be done with fairly low cost hand tools. Flat lap units $500-$600 or so and wheel units start in the $1000 range. You may consider something like a Cab Mate combination unit.
