If you're a doofus like me and have trouble controlling the groove depth, here is a solution I came up with. I spoke to Christopher months ago on this issue but his groove drum must be different from mine. We work with 20-22ga wire in all colors and shapes and I could not control the depth of the cut on my Inland machine because the water droplets distorted your vision between the cutting drum & cab. So I purchased the optional "Straight Edge Guide" part number 69971653 from Inland. Used a piece of 1/16"x1" aluminum angle from Home Depot and ground a groove in the angle using the Inland drum. Made 3 cuts for height adjustment. Now I get a sample piece of wire I'm going to work with and adjust the depth of the cut using the straight edge guide. Plus Inland's top plate is kind of flimsy and setting the cab on top of the angle helps stabilize it. Now my grooves are exactly the depth I want and is consistent all the way around. Now I can drink all the coffee I want and not worry about screwing up anymore cabs! P.S. No, I didn't cut the groove too high on this cab. This is a super thick cab that I'm going to put a double dome on it. Both sides are cool looking and if Diane gets bored of one side, she can flip it over and look at the other side. Groove is cut in the center and now I have to spin it around and dome the back side. LarryS

Wow, that's awesome. I had wondered how you get the cut width and depth so consistent. Nice job!

make some of those to sell here and I will be your first customer as for the flimzy inland top deck - I put small wood spacers under it to keep it from flexing in the center I also have hardwood dowels that I squared off the ends to fit the grid squares so I can use them as stops and to hold my plexy glass sheild to keep me dry

I think you are right Larry. My drum is brass colored and looks like yours has a wider band of diamond on it. I really like the guide you made! What did you use to cut the slit in the aluminum?

Hey Christopher,
I cut the notch using the diamond groove drum, 1mm size. It's aluminum angle and much softer than the jasp-ag I'm grinding! It zips right through it. Diane & Goober say HI!
