I bought this stone on ebay and was pretty disappointed with it. It is not as nice as I had expected. It's hard for me to wrap stones that I don't like. This is a big marra mamba tiger eye. The pattern is cool, but the only chatoyance is in the top part of the stone. Thankfully it oriented upside down, cause that's the way I like to wrap. Since I wasn't crazy about this, I did an experiment with the wrap. I fused 8, 18g copper wires for the bottom and wrapped from there. Because the wires are so heavy, I was able to just twist the top wires for a bail. This came out a little wonky at the bottom, but i think it's ok. It was an experiment that I'm glad I did. I've done this once before with smaller wires and wanted to try some larger wires. For the fusing part, it was super easy and worked a charm. I'll probably take this apart now. Attachments:

LOL! I can do small, too. But, I tend to like rocks where I can see the pattern well. Here's a small piece I did. It's an older piece. The opal is real flashy, but it didn't show in the picture. I think the small pearls were 2-2.5 mm. Attachments:

Oh, I like that cab! Marra mamba is a really weird stone and not so easy to work. That the pattern came up so well demonstrates a lot of skill on the part of the cabber! I really like what you did with the wrapping as well. It's very elegant and compliments the stone well!

Thanks! I like the pattern in the stone, but the chatoyancy is just not what I thought it would be. I have some others that would knock your socks off. This is dim in comparison. I respect the cut. It's a nice cut and glossy with no undercutting. I guess it's the price I paid that disappoints most. I haven't taken it apart, yet. Think I'll just think on it. Thank you for your input!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I showed it to DH and he said keep it, too. So, I guess it will stay as is.

I like your wrap. It's so different from the middle of the road stuff I do. How do you antique the wire? It appears that it's done after the wrap is done.

Yes, Lynn- after the wrap is finished, I usually tumble and then give the whole thing a quick bath in liver of sulfur, then polish with 0000 steel wool and a soft brass brush. It isn't hard too time consuming. One develops a routine. This particular piece I had to pickle, to remove the firescale, before I tumbled.

I say, keep it too! I am really liking your style of wrapping. So out of the ordinary. Kinda mind expanding for me, broadens the possibilities for sure! I would love to see more of your work, you amaze me with your ideas and creativity!!!

Thanks, wow. I am surprised and happy by the response. I am my own worse critic- as most ppl are, I guess. Y'all have convinced me that it isn't so bad.
Christopher- thank you for the complement. You can always go to my blog and check out the boutique tab where most of my work is.
