The bottle I picked up at an antique mall, it was a buck. It was probably used for medicine or extracts. It was very dirty and stained, but I was able to clean it up with a little Tripoli and plastic media in my 3 lb tumbler. The agate chips are from Beaver Bay on the North Shore of Lake Superior, the beach glimmers with them. I polished them a bit too, but mostly just to clean them. After filling the bottle with the tiny agate chips, I filled in the spaces with mineral oil, and epoxied the cork in place. The wire is from the hardware store. Total cost of the materials, not including the hand picked agates, was about $2.00. It hangs in front of the window on a wire from the ceiling, with a lobster claw clasp on the end of it.

Wow, great idea. Always wanted to do something with the small leftover bits, thanks for the idea.

I would love to see it when the sun hits it--I will chime in with another "great idea!"

Susan,
The sun is shining through it. The agates and bottle are too dense for it to really transmit enough light to shine a beam. It was low angle morning sun when I took the picture however, and I made it this winter, so maybe with stronger daylight summer sun it might be bright enough to do cast a spot on the opposite wall. It does stand out glowing bright orange in the sunlight however.
"chime in" Is that a hint?

That is a great idea. If only I had a sunny window to put one of those in.

You might try hanging it from a ceiling light, or in front of a track light, or perhaps hang it over a lamp with the kind of shade that is open at the top.

Looks great. How about hanging it from the rearview mirror...

Looks great. How about hanging it from the rearview mirror... That would actually work pretty cool, but I think the fuzzy dice would just get in the way.
