Here's my second attempt at wrapping with the 24 ga round. I think it looks better than my first one. I sliced a piece of turquoise off of the chunk I got in trade (from Diane at FrogAndBearCreations, Thanks Again )and cabbed it. For some reason, it looks green in the picture, though  I made it for my cousin after she said yesterday that she loved turquoise. I gave it to her earlier, and she seemed to like it

Thanks It's reassuring to hear that so many other people have a hard time with round wire... I decided to try a groove wrap on this opalite cab. I cut it from the $1 slab I bought from Stoneviews. This is REALLY pretty material I think it looks sloppy and it's kind of loose, so I'll probably re-wrap it. It's small enough that I'm thinking about cutting a matching cab and making a pair of earrings out of it. Think I should, or should I just leave it as a pendant?

Glad to see you having so much fun! That's what it's all about. The more you play, the more you learn. Your work is already improving as evidenced by your pictures.

Looks good! I like your idea of doing your first wrap with your first cab. Keep it. It's fun to look back on after a while.

Thanks That last one was a lot of fun cabbing, but I couldn't figure out how to get the wrap tight enough to stay on.

You did great. I'm glad you were brave enough to show off your first attempt. Keep wrapping.

Alisha, yours is so much better than my first wrap. Keep it up. Practice makes perfect! Like Randy said, get some copper and do a wrap a day, until the mistakes go away Tony

Thanks Diane and Tony Yesterday, I stripped some copper wire from the old singlewide Matt and I were given and decided to try a wrap with it using my silver wire for the binds on a piece of Brazillian blue opal in feldspar I cabbed (I think it may also be called blue star jasper, but I'm not sure?) : It's kind of sloppy in that picture, but I tidied it up a little bit after that picture and put it on a thin piece of black ribbon and gave it to my mom. She seemed to like it

It looks great--and great for your mother as well. The cab looks quite nice as well.

Thanks Helen I think I need to start charging like $10 for them instead of giving them away so I can support this hobby. I told one cousin that wants one that and she rolled her eyes and said "Psshh. I wouldn't pay $10 for one. " She doesn't realize that rocks and wire are not free. If I even gave myself $2 an hour for "labor" it'd cost more than that. Cabbing with a dremel takes a long time. I think $10 is a fair price. What do y'all think? Am I asking too much? Should I have to give her one free just because I did that for another cousin who has always been a lot closer to me and is more appreciative of it and, if I had asked, not that I would, probably would have given me $10?

I wouldn't sell her one!! What an attitude!!!! 10.00 is way cheap. That's called recouping your material costs. If anyone begrudges you your ten bucks, then I wouldn't bother to sell them anymore-- and just think, if you are this popular now, just wait until you are more experienced! They'll wish they had paid you 10 when they had the chance.

Ok, I found it Looks good! Keep doing them over and over, and it will refine for you. I wouldn't get too attached to any one of them you do on your best stones, as you'll be pulling them apart for the cabs, once you get some sq., hr, and in silver or gold, lol. I'm never happy with what I do with my best stones, so they keep getting recycled I suspect I'm not the only one either, lol. Really good wrapping stones aren't a dime a dozen. T

Awe...Thanks rockjunquie. That makes me feel a lot better. Thanks Tony! I had a friend send me a huge chunk of communication wire with hundreds of little plastic coated copper wires so I'll be using round copper for a while. I kind of like the colors too so I may leave the coating on and experiment with the colors If it doesn't look too cheap and tacky, I may stick with that. I don't really classify my stones into a "best" category. I think they're all great in their own ways. But, I do judge them to some degree on how well I cabbed them. I've noticed my cabs are finally starting to look decent now that I've been doing it for a couple of months. I just have to figure out how to facet on a dremel. LOL

Gosh Alisha, I think $10 is way too cheap also... there's not ONLY the stone, there's the cost of wire, but also your time!! Anyway, you are getting better all the time:).
