Well I put the new motor on last night, got the oil for it today and fired it up tonight. I slabbed a chunk of teepee, then put another chunk, but each slab came off broken. Is this just the material or is there something wrong? Here are all the slabs:

From the last three pictures, it looks like it may have broken along fracture lines. If so, it may be the stone. I'd try some more stones before attempting to fix anything.

I have more slabs come out broken than in one piece. It is just the stones coming apart on the fracture lines. Most of the stones around here have a lot of fractures (cold climate) and it is just something we have to deal with when we pick our stones up off the ground instead of mine them. Jim

That's the nature of the beast with TeePees. Most have fractures, and will break while cutting.

Ok, thanks all. I just picked up 2 more lots of teepee this morning which appears to be much better quality, I'll be slabbing that soon enough. I need to build one of those slab grabbers.

Nice to have it working again, eh?

Personally, I'd rather have them break coming off the saw than when I'm cabbing them (or worse yet, have a fracture line show up in final polish). It's pretty rare that I find rocks that are clear of all fractures.
