Working hard rocks has kept me busy longer than any other art form and I hope it does not bore me for a long time. The cost of changing art forms can be large and sometimes small. The tool cost of hammering copper is very small but you can invest quite a bit in ear plugs unless you buy the ones that you can use over and over or just go deaf. lol One of the most difficult things about hammering copper is finding somewhere to work and not have people throwing large objects at you.
I made these pieces while I was in Missouri a few years ago when I was there helping my brother build his Harley house and garage. It was there that I seriously started carving stone which made my copper hammering period quite short lived.
Every leaf in these pieces is an exact copy of leaves that I found in that great state except for the Calla Lilly. Some of the leaves were dry so I had to soak them so I could flatten them out for a pattern. The huge leaf in the fountain is the biggest tree leaf that I have seen in the USA.
I started with the most difficult and when I finished it I figured I could form just about anything that did not have to be too precise.
After I finished the first Calla Lilly with a butterfly I figured I would try one with two butterflies flying around the top of it. I had done this before with birds when I was in my found metal art phase.
Two heart shaped leaves with a butterfly for my brother and his wife.
A fountain. Not my first since I made a few before in my pottery phase of which I have no photos. Lucky you.
I only have a couple more phases to put you through and I will spread them way out so you will not have to put up with me forever unless I start some new phases. lol
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoy seeing everyone else's art forms.
