Hello everyone! Recently bought a couple of saws(new/old 8" saw,in Slabs and saws),and as a complete novice, have been struggling with names for basic parts of saws,ie,collars/flanges. Some names are obvious or are they? Some can be got from manufacturers websites, but I have yet to see,say a diagram labelling individual parts,is there such a thing on this website or anywhere else? For those of us just getting into the idea of lapidary, and perhaps buying our first machines,I feel it would help just to be able to call a part by it's name when we are looking for help/trying to order a replacement part,again-is it an arbor or a shaft? Is it a bird-is it a plane ;D,John.

It's an arbor. When you tear into those saws, post pics of the parts in question. We'll give you names for them. For those stubborn parts that don't want to come apart, you may want to cover your daughters eyes, so she doesn't read the names we give them. Don

Believe me John. When you start tearing old lapidary equipment apart for rebuilding, You'll invent a whole new vocabulary. lol. I know that I've invented a few new words of my own. Don

Many of the manufacturers post a parts list with operating instructions of their equipment online. The parts list give the part names and numbers. Bob

Hey Lee,thanks for adding that -it does help lots-especially as my saw was/is a homemade job with no instructions!Yourself and not a few other members are making it all a heck of alot easier for me,and hopefully one or two others as well-after all what use is knowledge if you don't share it? All the best John.
