I put a new belt on the grinder and changed the other parts. Thebelt keeps slipping after 20 - 30 minutes of use no matter how much you tighten the works. I am open for any suggestions.

Is the belt setting low in the pulley? If so you need a wider belt the one you have is likely bottoming out in the pulley. It should ride on the side.

I bought the belt that the company sells in its kit specifically for the Genie. If you have other belt supplier that may work, I am open for suggestions. thank you

the first is to make sure your pulleys are good and tight and it is not out of the question that a pulley could get rubbed out of spec. but here is a way to determine what upsize you need www.vbeltsupply.com/conventionalvbelts.html

The only belt on a Genie is the one for the little air pump that supplies air for the water "spitters". I had some problems with ours after repacing the motor bearings and wheels last year. Did you put some oil into the pump cylinder and make sure it is nice and free? Remove the screw in the top center of the pump and put three or four drops of 20wt. oil in the hole. A good cleaning and lubing of the pump solved our slipping problems.

Were you having a similar problem before you changed the belt?
Its possible that your new belt is defective?
I had the same problem on my Pixie It turned out that the belt was tweaked A new belt solved that problem
or there is oil on pulleys a q-tip with alcohol would clean that up
Otherwise motor pulley and the water pump pulley are not aligning complicated problem but you could tell a lot when its running and see how the belt is disengaging
good luck ! Ed

Thanks for the answers but yes we followed the instructions as included with the maintenance kit. We have never had this problem in the past, this is my third belt and the first to give me problems. The belt appears to be sitting in place, and is not disengaging. It just doesn't appear to provide enough friction for too long to drive the wheel. I am more inclined to think the problem is the belt, not the unit itself. I'll pull it apart again and clean the area to make sure there is no excess oil to cause slippage.
Thank you

I think you will have to take the pump completely apart. The shaft that turns in the bushing can get gummed up. It has to be cleaned up and lubed.............MrP

If you are saying the grinding wheels are slipping it isn't the belt. As mentioned the belt only drives the air pump. If you are wearing out pump belts the allignment of the pulleys and pulley wear would be first things I would check. Also if pump is over oiled you could be gettin g oil on ther belt. Also, you could call either Don or Kevin at Diamond Pacific and let the experts troubleshoot it for you.

Too bad DP put that pump on the left side of the machine. If you don't regularly clean out all the accumulated rock dust, you will eventually get it around and on the belt and pulley area. I remove all the wheels on that side of my machine periodically and clean off all that gunk there. Had they put it on the right side, there would be (IMO) less possibility of contamination with rick dust.
Make sure the pump is clean and well-lubed. I have seen on some stored machines the pump locking up from old oil. If the pump gets contaminated, you could be putting pressure on the pulley and stressing out the eetsy-beetsy belt on the pump.
If you've tried to compensate for a weak pump by tightening the belt, if there's another problem somewhere you can stress out the belt and either stretch it or burn it.

I do not know where you will find it but when I was a kid my dad had some spray that he sprayed on belts that were slipping. I don't think it would be messy if you put a sheet of paper behind the belt when you sprayed it. Really sticky stuff. A farm supply should have it. Jim

You can purchase belt dressing at most auto parts stores, even Walmart. Most commonly used on automotive v-belts (power steering, alternator, etc.) to make them grab better and stop squealing. Made by several different manufacturers - Prestone, Permatex, Sprayon® Belt Dressing - Krylon Products Group to name a few. Google "belt dressing." Jean

Thank you for all your comments and all were tried and appreciated. It turned out when the new leather bellows were put in the vacuum pump they were over oiled this was leaking on the belt causing the slippage. Once I cleaned out the excess oil the problem was resolved. My hubby also went out and purchased a rubber 0-ring for fifty-seven cents fromCanadian Tire the same size as the more expensive v-belt that Diamond Pacific sells in the maintenance kit. Surprisingly it works like a charm and it is easier to put on a remove than the v-belt because it stretches.
Rockpickerforever thank you for you suggestion for the belt dressing. I will certainly look into that since it the one alternative I have not tried yet.
Thanks to all!

Thanks for the tip on using an O-ring. I've had my Genie since 93 or 94, and am happy to say that the pump is still going strong. I've only oiled the leathers once in all those years. I'm sure that in the not too distant future I'll need to rebuild it.

Maybe did you keep track of the size of that o-ring? One tip about using o-rings for drive belts, get urethane rings instead of viton or butyl if possible, they will last much longer. It is good to see the problem is solved.

Don, now that you said it you will for sure. Best to oil the pumps when they start to pump less. I had oil leaking out of mine when it was new so they come with plenty from the factory.
