Have a bead on an estate sale
They have a gyrok tumbler that they say was originally $300 (not sure what they would take for it)
I have a UV 10 but wouldn't mind more vibe space, should I check out the gyrok or should I just save my pennies for another UV10?
So far I love the UV10, just would be nice to have more capacity.

John (jsgems) sells the gy-rocs. I don't have any experience with them, but from what I've been told they're every bit as good as the UV-10.

I'm a Gy-Roc dealer and distributor so totally unbiased. I think they are the best vibe tumblers on the market. As a retired mechanic I like the belt driven design. The UV and most "conventional" designs mount the motor shaft down and mount a counterweight to the motor shaft to throw it out of balance. Gy-Roc mounts their motor shaft up and the weights are mounted under and above the bowl cradle. The motor pretty much runs balanced and drives an out of balance bowl. Motors like to be balanced. If it cost "about $300" new it is likely the 10 lb. model (now $370 list) unless it was bought many, many years ago. I sold a dozen 40 lb Gy-Rocs to a manufacturer who already had a bunch of them running 24-7 mostly deburring metal. They are used commercially a lot. Bowls, springs, belts, etc. are relatively inexpensive. The biggest issues are both operator error things. Too much water wears bowls out fast (as with all vibes), and broken suspension springs from under loading.

Great, ok here is what the seller is saying:
"Gyrok tumbler cost around $300 new , looks like will need a new motor"
What do you think John? Do you have motors for these and what would one run?
I assume a new belt will probably be in order as well.
How about noise? The bowl looks to be plastic - is that as loud as I assume it will be?

OK, we PM'ed about this but here goes. I usually figure used in good condition about half the new price. If the motor is bad the manufacturer charges $115 plus shipping ($15). If the motor is bad what kind of shape is the rest of the tumbler? I would probably make a pretty low offer if it was me. I already told John he can get the motor at Graingers and all the springs, belts, and even bowls are pretty reasonable to get it back in shape.

I have wondered about the GyRoc before myself. Does anyone have any good pics of one? I would like to build one myself if I can get a good look at one to design it using available materials.
