Well ive been told to intro myself so here goes...bare with me...i have been interested in rocks since childhood...a few years ago bout 6 or 7 yrs i think my good friend asked me if i wanted to join the local mineral club. He is into fluroscents(sp). After going to a few meetings and a field trip i saw they had a lapidary workshop. The first night i went i cut polished a cab..and was hooked. When we moved the work shop to its new location i started teach others what i learned ..and now i run the workshop with a few other instructors.I love to go hunt old mines and dumps..but love to cab and cut the most.As a side venture i now design and make jewelry..for sale and as gifts to others. There is just something almost magical about taking a rough slab and making it unlock its inner beauty...and then seeing the smile it brings to somones eyes when they wear it..if anyone has questions ill try to help answer them...Dave ;D

Welcome Dave, I see you are on the Hudson, we have a great member in the Catskills maybe not to far from you. Being a lapidary instructor is really cool. I am self taught from what I have seen on the forum. In fact, it is going to be one year this month since I did my first cab. I am sure that I as others will look to pick your brain. LOL ;D Love to see some of your work once you settle in. You are going to love this place. Stu

Hi, Dave, and welcome! I'm new to cabbing and really like it. I'm also learning carving. However, I've always been a rockhound! You will learn a lot here and meet a lot of nice folks.

Hey Dave! Great to have you on the board! Great group of people that you will really enjoy and the wealth of knowledge is incredible! Biggest thing to remember is to have fun and take pictures...Lots of pictures!!! When you get to the point of wanting to post them, let me know as that can be kinda tricky here. (Took me a month or two to figure it out!)
Enjoy!
Cathy

Welcome, you have just joined one of the friendliest, most helpful groups that I have ever found and it sounds like you will be able to help those of us less than expert members who need it as well. Brenda
