So, I got the cab all spiffed up, did a nice groove wrap on it, threw it in the tumbler.... and then dropped the damn tumbler, spilling water, plastic pellets, stainless shot and my pendant all across the floor!!!! The cab broke. I am trying to fix it now. I was broken hearted. It was my first groove pendant and the last of the slab. I cut the wire off the pendant and just put it together loosely for the picture. Attachments:

Wow, that really sucks. I do all of my grooving after the cab is polished. Don't know if that would make a difference or not. It was a beauty too. Jim

UUUGHHHH! Sorry to hear that Tela! I got use to heart breaks but dropping machinery is a heart attack! I dropped my Foredom spindle I only had it a couple weeks I had a oversize felt wheel on the right hand side Well the drip hit just the right way (Murphy) and bent the spindle The left hand side runs true but the right hand side is heartache and we know how that ends mostly

Oh my goodness I feel your pain! I've had cabs go flying and break that actually caused real tears to flow. Mine always seems to happen on the polish wheel after I've spent oodles of time perfecting it Oh Ed..... ouch that hurts.

My breaks come at the polish point also. I can not figure out why that is.
Ed, that is sad. Probably the most expensive part. I have done a bunch of straightening in my life time so I could probably get it close enough so that you could use it. Has it caused a vibration problem? Jim

I break cabs, just gotten keep thinking "It's only a rock". I usually super glue them back together and re-polish starting with the #4 wheel. Superglue polishes just like the cab!

It will still be a wonderful cab with the bottom rounded off. Can you still use the wrap in another piece? Maybe work it in somehow? Jo

In theory, I'm thinking it would be more hassle than it worth The left side runs real smooth. No vibration. You can see I have 2 wheels on that side. I contacted Foredom. I want to just buy the new spindle and install it myself. I had a quote of 70.00 but they won't sale it to me. :nono: They want me to ship the whole machine for repairs. so I'll run it till it really breaks I suppose Ed Thanks ~K!

OMG, I feel your nausia! It'll pass! The cab is still in good shape and can be redone....Not the initial vision but sometimes better! :-) Tela, take a breath and keep all momentum going forward here. Just a slight challenge...not a heart break! Stuff happens and we learn to regroup and move on...with style and composure!

Thanks all Jim, I had this in the tumbler to clean the copper. The stone I grooved after I finished it. Mostly, your accident was way worse, I'm afraid. Sorry about that, dude. TNT- yup, this was the final stage for this one. Argh! And, it was over something as stupid as dropping my tumbler, too. Hub, I already have it repaired and ready to recut the groove. I'll do another weave on it. That was 24g, too- not so easy to manage. I feel as bad for the lost time in the bail as I do for the rock. Jim- I posted a really "once sweet" tiffany that broke on the last wheel. I was so upset. It was a really pretty stone. It is now half the stone it used to be. Hey, Randy I would have tried to glue this back together but the pieces were lost in the mess and no where to be found. I have ruined a few and don't usually mind. I'm new so everything is a learning experience. Jo- yes, I'm already worked on it and, as a matter of fact, I like the new shape so much, I'm gonna make a template Lemonade from lemons LOL! Cathy, well put! Chin up and move forward!

I feel ALL of your pain!! Know just how you feel. Disaster always seems to strike after you have put almost the maximum amount of time into the stones. They tend to fling away and break on the polish stage, because there is more drag on them then during the grinding and pre-polish stages. You just have to deal with it (either repair, cut down or abandon), and move on. Unless a day comes when there are no more rocks available, there will always be another you can start on. Just my take... Jean

I haven't tried this myself but since I have broken cabs - I keep them having around for a time when I might. I am thinking maybe grind the join flat and glue in another nice piece of contrasting rock. Then grind flush and repolish - call it intarsia and say, "ya, I meant to do that"

LOL! I know that whole "how did I drop THAT!??" feeling. I have already fixed the cab, haven't rewrapped it, though. I just rounded out the bottom. Looks pretty good, actually. Yay!

I use a sunshine cloth to clean my copper, it seems to clean up quite well. I would try glueing it. Mercury glue is the strongest. But reworking the stone with another setting, and make another cab for the wrap you already made. Just a thought!
