Anyone have any idea who makes, or who used to make this kind of expanding drum? Or more specifically, where to get the rubber "washers" and aluminum flanges? These are 6" wheels that have a 1.5" bore hole. The shaft I want to put them on is 0.75". I've managed to come across these kinds of wheels several times. I had one already with the washers/flanges, but just picked up 4 more without this hardware. I tried contacting Lortone, thinking it was one of their old products, but they didn't think it was theirs. I can find plenty of suitable alternatives to the aluminum flanges, but I've not had good luck finding the rubber washers or a good alternative. Attachments:

Could you possibly replace the rubber bushing with a suitable sized brass one? Unless the holes are out of round or not centered, I don't think the rubber bushing would be needed.

My Star Diamond cab machine came with that type of drum on it only 8". Barranaca(not spelled right) makes the machine now I think.

I think those were Scott Murray. I thought Lortone bought them out.

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies. They all help confirm that the exact same rubber bushings don't seem to be made any more. Or at least aren't as common as I was expecting/hoping.
Before I check with anymore lapidary companies or order anything off the internet I think I'll go to the hardware store again to see if I can find anything to work with.
I saw 1.5" dowel rods the other day, and I think I'll take the wheel with me to test the fit. I looked up some tricks on how to drill a hole exactly in the center, and if the dowel fits well, I think I'll give it a shot.
I don't know about all of you, but I think I like the mechanical tinkering aspects of this hobby just about as much as the rocks themselves. Maybe even more sometimes.
Let's see: just today I was considering making a home-made lathe to turn my own bushings. Then I was fascinated by the idea of casting my own aluminum flanges....
Hmmm. I think I have a little problem of mechanical hobby ADHD. I guess that's why I have combined 1/4 ton of rocks and not-quite-usable lapidary equipment, but hardly a polished rock to show for it.
I need to get to work on fixing that. Wish me luck in staying focused!

What ever you do, don't use rubber bushings for your wheels. The bushings need to be rigid. Bushings commonly used with lapidary equipment are made of hard plastic.

iF 1" THE COMMONLY AVAILABLE "TELESCOPIC" BUSHINGS WOULD WORK.

If you are looking for the rubber ones, I got some from Ebersole's a number of years back. Steve

Leonard Ebersole moved to Texas and is doing shows there. I don't know if he has a website. He is still selling equipment and supplies at shows. He will be at the Austin show next month. You may be able to get his contact info from them.

Sad to see Ebersole's is closing up. I remember that shop from when I was a kid in magazines. I never like seeing old shops close. I like seeing him on ebay. Come to think of it, I got the rubber washers from his ebay listings. Steve
