Hi Adrian, What a nice surprise for me this morning!I VERY seldom visit the section of the board and for some odd reason I came here today and found your new "creation"! I started my "creation" in 1966 when I was only 22 years old!I knew almost nothing about building a home but HAD to learn fast! LOL I'm now 68 years old and through the years have had a LOT of love and joy living here with my wife Nancy, our three children and 6 grandchildren! I KNOW you will experience this same love and joy with Ina,Ioana and hopefully many grandchildren in your new home!
I am soooooooo happy for all of you and that I came to this section of the board this morning!
Good luck with your "creation" and I WILL be looking over your shoulder as time goes on! connrock

So have you started the floor plan for the shop? How much room will you have? What kind of fixtures are you putting in it? Where's the grinder going to be and will you have a window in it? LOL!

Thank you everyone!
Cathy, part of the basement will be the rock shop. Yes I will have a small window there.
Tom, you started your "creation" at a much younger (and appropriate) age than I did. Congrats, and I am still pleased that I managed to do it.
Shotgunner, anytime you want, but not in this house for the moment, LOL.
I will add some new pictures later today.

Hello again, here are the pictures I promissed. After the mechanical diggings, the workers corrected the surfaces by shoveling: After this, they stuck some re-bar rods on the bottom on the ditches, such as the upper end of those rods would be at the same level to help in leveling the concrete. Here's how the foundation pit was just before the first concrete pouring: And the concrete pouring begun: Firstly, in the foundation ditches: And then the bottom of the basement pit : After this first concrete layer (we call it leveling concrete), the work at the reinforcement begun: If you think I was able to stay away from the re-bars, then you don't know me That's all for the moment. Unfortunately today there was no progress on the site, because of the rain. The weather will get better in a few days, though, at least this is what forecasts say. Thanks for looking, Adrian

Fantastic Adrian! The diggings remind me of Phoenix dig 8 feet down and nothing but soil good fertile land but no real rocks This seem of little rocks, at about 4 feet down, ran the full length. About 20’ I thought it strange The picture is of an HoHoKam archeological dig a stone throw from where I live The pit must be 6 feet deep This doesn’t have much to do with your marvelous project but I been meaning to use this picture for some time Ha Ha Best to You & Yours Ed

I'm so Excited for You Adrian and the Girls! It's neat watching the progression pics and seeing how different parts of the world build homes. I love the design you guys chose and I bet your stoked about having that basement rock shop. It's times like these that I wished I lived closer to come and give a helping hand. Good Luck on the home, and I will be watching the build. Steve

Looks like they are getting on quite nicely. I worked around concrete for many years as a carpenter and sometimes working the concrete. Tough job but from my experience they are putting a lot more steel in the concrete there than they do here. Plus, the concrete walls are only six inches thick here so you are getting a very sturdy foundation.
If a worker in the USA showed up for work with those sandals and shoes on they would get their butt kicked clear over the fence. lol I wonder how many worker hours are lost because of foot injuries over there. Jim

Thank you so much again. Ed, I am amazed that in an area with so many interesting rocks as Arizona is, Phoenix is an island of soil. I am pleased that no archaeological items showed up during my diggings, otherwise the works would have been stopped. Steve, thank you for the wishes. I am glad you are interested in this thread. Welcome back, I was missing your posts lately. Jim, you're right, they wear sandals. I wear hiking boots which I find much more appropriate for a site. But today they wore not sandals, but rubber boots. This is because another concreting stage took place. This morning, the concrete truck came on. It has attached a concrete pump. In the construction workers' language, we call it here "the elephant", for obvious reasons. As you see, Ioana wanted to see this concrete pouring. Then the team begun the pouring... ... and the vibrating of the concrete: More than a concrete truck was needed: After filling all the foundations, they also poured the basement's floor: Ioana was interested in some details and I explained them to her as good as I could. And, after all this work, that's how the house looks now: Thank you for reading, Adrian
