I agree. What wires do you think would enhance your stone?

Maybe bronze for the main wire and gold or silver or the binding. I'm also thinking a smaller gage, softer wire and lose the swirlies on the top. I find them annoying.

Where do you get bronze wire?
I have brass and coated copper in bronze color but have never seen bronze wire

I get it here: www.wire-sculpture.com/bronze-wire-1.html So far I've been using Rio and Wire Sculpture for my wires. Quality is good at both...Rio looks to be cheaper on the silver and gold fill but the spools are a pain. Cathy

Thanks! I just also found out that bronze is another name for red brass which is what I am using from Rio just placed an order from that site for 50 feet of sq and hr so will see how different it is from brass.

from the pictures it look like a softer tone than the brass which has a hard, bright shine to it

If you haven't already taken it apart, maybe you can give the silver a patina it will help tone down the silver. I actually like it and don't see a problem with the metal color and the stone. Not a perfect match, but not bad, either. I do know how you feel about gaps, though. I'm the same way, they grate on my nerves and I have to make them go away.

And you're not happy with this? I would LOVE to be able to make a piece such as this.

Oooo Tela..... I'm a ways from patina yet. I think one reason I haven't worked with the silver till now is I haven't found a stone that could meet it. Stainless does not have the glow that silver does. It doesn't compete with the stone for attention. To me, it almost seems like the .silver wants to stand on it's own. Definitely doesn't want anything to do with that rock.
I hate working with copper... with a BIG H.
Seriously feeling an increasing need to put these flame agates in a drawer and pull out some Petoskey to shine.

I've looked at it a hundred times, and I don't see anything wrong with it. The gaps that you're talking about are all even so they look like they belong. I like it

Only because you haven't seen this! ;D The back...I love this! DEAD sexy!!! After I went back to the wheels and got the flat spot out of the middle of the stone that I thought was a smudge, I went back to stainless as it was the only 22 g square I had in the house. (Note that the wrap is not jumping out of the picture shouting "LOOK AT ME!" now.) I eliminated the swirlies as, coming from me they seem so decidedly ... against the will of God and thoroughly upset the orbital balance of the universe...et al. There is still gapping, but on a more natural level. It doesn't look as though the stone is trying to escape from clutches of the wire. It looks more like what it is... a cab that was cut and ground, slightly off metric perfection... but I work in inches so I'm okay with that. Overall, I can live with this now. To me, it seems much more harmonious and like the stone and wrap are one piece, not two that hate each other. Sometimes, I think, you just have to step away and give the process time in this. I also think I really need to really look at gages more closely and get some variety going with that. Cathy

Hey Cathy, I loved your added post. I like to hear other people's thinking process. I think you are right on the money with your reasoning. This is definitely more harmonious. I love making boo boos and fudging up, so I can step back and learn something from them. I can't believe you just started doing this. I thought you had been doing it longer. I think Randy is right and you are a natural.

Thanks Tela! It's still hard for me to figure out what isn't working sometimes. This is the first smaller cab I've wrapped and I've only ever worked in 21 g hh wire. Never in sterling before this piece. A lot of lessons learned here, though, and that's good! For me, it's really good to be able to talk it out and look at my pieces here... especially with the ones I screw up! I learn more from doing that than I do from getting it right the first time out.
