One of the people in our club has been teaching me to silversmith. This is my first attempt. Its kind of basic but I'm just happy it didn't melt. Its german silver with a Arizona Jasper set in it.

Nice, I just started metalsmithing classes last week with a local jeweler, hope I can make something decent too. I'm not familiar with German Silver, is that just silver mined in Germany or is there something unique about its alloy or something?

John, the nice thing is you have a pocket full of this material. You might recognize it as a nickel. In fact the nickels in our pocket change contain approximately 7 cents worth of "nickel silver".

Yup no silver in german silver (nickle silver) its nickle copper and zinc. Ramona told me it works pretty similar to silver though so its good to learn on. Mistakes cost less.

I don't know anything about silversmithing but I think it looks great.
