Not as spectacular as some fossils, The Collenia Undosa is a precambrian, 2.2 - 2.5 billion year old fossil type of shallow sea life. Also known in the lapidary world as Mary Ellen jasper from the Mesabi Range, St. Louis Co., Minnesota. This 23.5 pound chunk of the green variety will soon become slabs and a sphere preform, with an end nub face polished as a specimen.

I have a couple nice chunks from Wyoming that look all together different. I was going to take pics of them too, but they're frozen in ice near the front steps right now. Pics of them when we get a thaw.

LOL. We may get above freezing tomorrow. If so, I'll bring a chunk inside to wash off.

Gorgeous material, Don! I think some of the Green Mary Ellen Jasper has chatoyant areas in it.

Well, so much for plans to work on this thing. We now have 5" of snow on the ground and several hours of snow to go.
Jan, I haven't seen any chatoyant areas, but lots of white quartz stringers and hints of red. More may show up when I start slabbing.
