Found this fossil in a local creek. Wondering what it is. Not sure if the picture shows very good or not but the pattern has distinct rectangular shapes in a linear fashion. The pattern looks like some lizard cowboy boots I've seen. Is this a fossil of reptile skin or something? Attachments:

It's a piece of a fern leaf. I have one with the same markings that came from the 3000 ft level in the Italian alps.
