My biggest dino bone find so far......Found in Central Montana about 20 years back...(Its a large vertebra) Notice the structure of the body and veriebrat arch...... The most common dinosaur to run in the area I hunt fossils in, would be the Triceratops and Hadrosaurs... I might clean it up a bit,but it will never be cut!!! To much history in dino bone....Expecially one like this..

I understand why you don't want to cut it, but I would have to hide it. Curiosity about what's inside....

I understand why you don't want to cut it, but I would have to hide it. Curiosity about what's inside.... Most of the dino bone in the Montana areas are only grey and brown on colors,so not worth cutting......

Same as most Florida bone fossils. They are rarely silicified,i think apatite is in the solidification process.I am not sure some are even fossils, but bone that has been mineralized from the last ice age/mammoth age.Maybe a shorter term like 10,000 years.Maybe some one has some insight on that subject out there.

Heck I even have buffalo teeth from the pioneer days or even further back that have started to agatize......I fished a river in North Dakota every summer, when the river would go down during the hot months, bones would start to show. Of cource I would investigate(LOL)..It was old buffalo bones, mostly teeth and a few odds and ends.... I started asking around the area about buffalo and some oldtimers told me of the 1800's,where the buffalo were so thick in this little valley, the settlers would wait for days to be able to cross the valley, because of the buffalo grazing the area(huge herds)1000's of buffalo!!!!! Hence the great finds......Most of the valley is still marsh and will never be investigated....I feel lucky to just find what I find and be happy about it...

I had a buddy in ND,that had a buffalo ranch.I got to learn alot about that animal.A buffalo giving birth, won't birth if a snowstorm hits,it will hold the baby in till its safe! Than the buffalo form a circle for the female to calf and make sure its safe, till it gets on its feet. Buffalo also form circles on ill buffalo till it dies or gets better. They can outrun most humans because of their muscles on their upper chest areas and legs that are built for speed! I was taught small tidbits like that....Great education, that I enjoyed! Also have a buddy that runs an Elk farm too, recieved alot of education about elk too...Did you know the elk have the same habits as a whitetail deer...Very territorial!!

There is just something about buffalo. One of my favorite animals. My parents went to yellowstone last year and seen them everywhere roaming around. My mom was sending me all kind of neat pics of them.
There is a big elk farm close to where I live. They have a ton of acreage to roam around with timber and a wide creek running through. When I was in high school that was were we would go party in the woods. The elk would come right up to us. Kinda sucked that they were that domesticated that bad that they would come right up to you. They were cool to see and very big.

I love buffalo too. In all forms. Most recently in the form of filet mignon with an incredible red wine sauce that went so perfectly with the buffalo it made the entire meal memorable.
Some steamed brocolli, garlic mashed and a Newcastle. Dang. I am getting hungry!
