a form of devil's toenails? shells in rock .. but what rock?
... or a low-grade rainforest jasper - thundereggs in rhyolite. maybe lilypad jasper form WA sate.

Thanks deb193redux. I have had devil's toenails. It is cool stuff. The shells in rock thing...That is why I was contemplating Turitella. Jasper.... maybe.... Thunder egg.... I am not quite seeing....

google some images of lilypad. it is a thunderegg rock. I'm looking at some complete circles with dark centers, but that could just be a shell cut parallel to the dome instead of across it.
