Used to have to go to Vancouver BC on business trips and they caught me marvelling at Skunk Cabbage. They let it be known how much they hated it there. As a weed in their lawn.

Lots of wild cattails in North Dakota, grew thicker than ticks in the summer months.. As for dropping into a cave that deep,no thank you,I've propelled of mountains in Germany while in the Army, that was crazy enough..LOL Rhubarb I heard is a weed in Florida and people just mow them over, but up north and here it makes the best pie... Odd that things are different in east state or region.....

I've met more cavers turned rock hounds that I could have imagined. I think it stems from all the years of the 'taking nothing but pictures...' motto that is part of the community. We all get to a point that we just want to take some of the pretty stuff home. So we find a hobby that encourages such behavior. :nono: although to this day I still will not touch a single pebble inside a cave :nono: Wow, I have been to TAG a few times. And yes, that is one crazy bunch of people. I have never dropped Fantastic Pit. Always thought I wanted to but haven't done much over 240'. My all time favorite pit is Neversink! Gotta be the most beautiful place ever. Each spring the ledges near the top are full of lady slipper and jack-in-the-pulpit orchids. I have seen plenty of the crinoids in the caves. Even have a photo of a bi-valve in breakdown in the Rotunda Room of Camps Gulf (taken years ago before white nose closed all state caves). the only intact bi-valve that I have ever seen inside a cave. Never met the Sharcos. I really only caved with a small group of Tennessee boys - mostly Chattanooga Grotto. When you are doing vertical work, it is really important to trust the group you are with. Fence lines out from Mytle Beach were covered w/asparagus.Right on the easement.Park the car and load up.Nobody collected them. That is strange Fossilman, how treasures are neglected.Looking forward to cooking your stuff.May need to look at temp careful. I got scarred of heights some where along the way.Climbing is fine, but no more interest in hanging on rope. Yes Ann,trusting your group is way important in that business. Those caves are sensitive.Prefer the well travelled routes so i don't leave any new scuff marks.Used to go deep w/Eagle scouts as kid and found newly travelled areas that were so clean and sensitive. I want to know if you have ever heard of Johnson's Crooke, Ann.Starts with a 30-40 foot rope down.Reason being, was the spiral trail down the funnel to it was prettiest place on earth. It's been 40 years since being there. It may have been closed as it was a slick and ledge ridden and owned a few fatalities.I just want to hike that funnel, like entering the inside of the earthNever seen so many strange salamanders and moisture loving plants. I am interested in Neversink.Sounds like Johnson's.I am going to do search. The state had a cave publication-imagine that-A lot of caves. It was printed about 50 years ago.can not find it-dang

Heights,I got use to it in the Army and working contruction in North Dakota...Worked on roofs of "grain elevators" usually 85 to 100 feet, fixing leaks and or running screws back into the metal roofing... Roofed alot of church steeples and barns too....Some were pretty hairy.....No more though, too old and cripple up to do that crap anymore... Fell off a barn after the roof jacks gave way on me and my cousin...Fell 32 feet, landed on my butt in the sitting position, driving my spine!!! Surgery helped a bit but not good enough..LOL Thats when I took early retirement and started rockhounding.... Thank God I can walk, thats all I asked for....Thumbs up..

You mentioned cattails, used to dig a thousand a day for mitigation jobs(latifolia, the big ones).Ha,wrists are shot, imagine that.

Is this the 572?? Holy smokes Scott-never saw a picture of Fantastic pit.The digital camera revolutionized cave photography.I see places i saw as a kid looking thru Flicker pics of caves.Regular cameras do not fare well in nasty caves. This is the entrance to 'Fantastic Pit' cave 30 years ago.The one on the left is dear wife,my punk ass baby brother and his wife-all cave virgins haha brother and my wife had mud fights the whole way-whatever
