Hi all! Bob here from the great state of Indiana. I am new to this rock tumbling hobby and so that means I have a lot to learn. Although I've had a tumbler for several years I finally went out and broke up a few rocks to tumble. I have rocks in my yard that I came across years ago and can't remember where I got them. I do know that I have four large pieces of Red Aventurine 4 - 6 inches across in that pile. Anywho, I also have about 20 - 30 geodes of which I have broke open most of them. Some have copper colored crystals and hollow inside, while others will be white or white with clear crystals and solid all the way through. The outer shell of the geodes are different somewhat too. I have no idea why the difference but I can live with it. :help: I would like to know if it is feasible to tumble smaller pieces of geodes or would that tear up the crystals to much. Has anyone tried this? I was so happy when I found this site. I know I can obtain a wealth of information from it as soon as I can get through it all.

Hi Bob! Welcome!
Yes, there is a lot to learn here. Enjoy.
Tumbling will tear up the crystals.

Hi Bob....I'm also still a newbie and learning from this great little forum. Very nice and talented members here. I've already learned a few things from some of the members and was able to purchase my first lapidary equipment from a couple that had something for sale. It's exciting to be learning a new craft/trade with so many people that also love what they are doing. I am a knife maker and have plans to adding stone inlays to my knife designs which is a totally new process for me. This is definitely a great place to start learning and sharing with like minded people no matter what you are doing with your rock work. Enjoy and see you around!

Pinto, adding stones to the handle of the knives could make them look great and add to the value. I would like to see one when you get one done.
