I had some rough snowflake obsidian that I tossed into the mix with some Agate and Jasper. While it looked fine in the first 3 stages of polishing..now after a couple of days in the Cerium and Tin Oxide (earlier post) it is as dull as ever while the agate and jasper are really looking great..Puzzled in Alabama Dwight P

I have never had snowflake obsidian shine, even when I have polished it as a cab. Without knowing the absolute whys, I speculate it is the contaminations of the ash that permeates the entire piece. I have had snowflake smooth beautifully, but I never had one shine. The same with mahogany obsidian, red obsidian, and the blues and yellows. Even with a dop and leather buff, a dull shine is all she wrote. One thing about the snowflake, they feel pleasant to the touch. I have been told by some Lacota's that snowflake is their heartstone.
