Cool point and handle.......The use of deer, elk and other deer family antlers is common where I was raised,to make handles and tools.. My Uncle found lots of artifacts made that way....Even bones were used to make tools..You use what you have to,to survive! I have a shop full of antlers from elk, moose, deer, caribou, red deer,etc,etc...Little by little they get used for something...

Antler is as tough as any fiberglass or plastic-close anyway.Better as a handle(like wood) than any plastic.I worked my way thru college as a butcher and the state inspector insisted that we use plastic handle knives.Soon as he walked out that door out comes a dozen wood hanldles Ha

I am looking and looking trying to figure out HOW the arrow got stuck in the antler pointing sharp end out...is that a man made tool?? There's nothing tying the head to the antler, is it ancient glue??

Look at the way the strings in a tennis racket are dried to super tight.
Using catgut. Catgut is very strong and dries w/shrinkage.
Same principle. You could give it a try Helen. It says cat herder as your motto.

I'm not going to hurt cats. I like little furry critters. Catgut sounds gross, and I see no evidence of any type of tie/wrap in the pix of your antler/blade.

So they killed an animal and instantly had glue and tie wraps. All they had to do was boil it. Did you hear about the native American they found in California hiding in the hills?Ishi was amazing. He was the real deal. www.archerylibrary.com/books/pope/hunting-with-bow-and-arrow/chapter03.htmlI believe he blew snot in his hand to lubricate his palm when building a fire with a spinning stick and bow.Appetizing

That's a lovely story, enjoyed reading it. I've always been fascinated and in awe of people who are so in tune with nature that they can live that way. Thanks:).
Well, if it's your own snot, it's not so gross:).

Cool thread. Learned some stuff. I really like that ancient antler knife thing. Never seen an ancient one just modern day ones.
The color of that newnan is cool looking. Guy did a great job.
