I recently visited a real geode/ thunder egg enthusiast (Baker Mine and Dugways) and caught a glimpse of what I remember as a Raytech slab saw with a vice design that was totally new to me. The front standard of the vice was at a sloping angle (like the top part of a "k" and the angle could be adjusted somewhat with a thumb screw. It seemed to be a design worth attempting in that it would provide an extra obstacle to a rounded rock trying to climb up if hardness, feed rate, and blade speed combined with poor purchasing surfaces combined to allow the rock to move as it came in contact with the saw blade. Does anyone have such a vice or has anyone attempted to modify the straight up (vertical) vice jaws to enhance that angle of grasp for special situations? It seems to me that a wedge shaped vice surface could be welded up and bolted to the front of the vice (losing some of the vice capacity, but most of us don't use the entire reach of the vice most of the time anyway). Ideas, comments, or photos would be welcomed. I acknowledge that I have not seen many slab saws in person, but I've certainly looked at a lot of photos of saws and vices, but have not encountered this one previously. Tom
