Howdy folks, Old bottles used to be one of my loves but I moved very few with me to Texas. Dairy bottles used to be one of my favorite categories so here's a pic of one of my favorites. Story behind this one is kind of funny. I used to do biological specimen collecting for extra money during college and one time my buddies and I got a big order for small octopi. After going through umpteen bottles of air trying to fill the order with little success, we found a simple system. We dove alongside the pier at Monterey where the old harbor used to be and collected sacks of old bottles. Turned out small octopi like to live in old milk bottles. So, we simply gathered bags of milk bottles, stood them in the sun on the beach and out popped the octopi. Filled the order in no time at all. This is one of the bottles I kept and still has a small bivalve inside that grew to maturity in there and is too big for the bottle neck....Mel

Round Quart (embossed front) 5c/Monterey Bay/Milk Distributors/Inc./Reg Cal. 4 rows of dots around neck of bottle. Vertical lines along base. Mint condition. A very nice bottle. $25.00 Bivalve-priceless We use steel bottle probes in Florida, probing the sand bottom rivers at old steamboat stops and around old dock ruins.

*L* If bottles would have brought the prices they do now days, I could have been rich on bottles instead of collecting museum specimens. The sea floor in that area was knee deep in bottles and after a storm the really old ones were uncovered. At my folk's old house when I still lived at home, I had bottles lined up all along their fence rails. Most we got the octopi from, we simply threw in the trash. Thinking back, I sure wish I had them now. Of course, in hindsight, I wish my folks hadn't thrown out my comic book collection I had stored at their home when I got married. That was worth some real bucks. Almost made me cry when they did that but typical for my pop who put no value on much of anything *L*.
Yep, that's a one pint probably a cream bottle. I had the quart in the stuff I sold plus some very rare southern California dairy bottles. Ventura County used to be home for some dairies with some of the coolest embossed and etched bottles. Billiwhack Dairy was the good one out there. All the old bottles were embossed "Home of Prince Aggie", a very famous dairy bull.....Mel
