Yes, dizzy! Don't get me wrong, I like Mike's videos, and totally agree that you can see things better in a video than in a few static photos. But that moving the camera around quickly while shooting... I do it, too! Actually I do it a lot, LOL!
James, I missed you, too. Hope you had a fun and fruitful adventure!

LOL. Anyone can own fossils. Either by searching them out yourself, or by buying them on ebay. Just google vertebrate fossils for sale, or invertebrate fossils for sale. A couple of words of warning though, fossils are addicting, (aren't they Mike?), and shy away from fossils coming from Morocco and China. Most of those are either reconstructed fossils, (made up of parts of several fossils), or out and out fakes. Most real fossils don't look perfect. The perfect real specimens are very rare, and very expensive. If a fossil looks perfect, or is listed as museum quality, first check the country it's coming from. There are tons of beautiful fakes out there, along with crooked dealers. If you find a specimen that you're interested in, send Mike (fossilman) or myself a link so we can check it out for you. I can promise that neither of us will try to outbid you and steal it away. We'll give our opinion on the fossil, and an estimate of what your highest bid should be.

My Dixie Wrecked, this is a fake fossil trilobite from Morocco. I bought it, knowing full well that it was fake so I would have it as a teaching aid for others. This is an authentic fossil trilobite from a trusted collector/dealer in Bolivia. You can see how much less perfect the authentic specimen is. Sorry to hijack your original posting Mike. I thought it might be important to give a potential new fossil nut a few pointers. Don

Well Don,no worries......... As Don says, stay clear of fossils from Morocco and China, not only from them being pieced together and copies, but it ruined the American market for our fossils in the good Ol' USA!!! Don is right on watching for pieced fossils,I can give a lesson on this subject at 100%,because I do rebuild fossils from other fossil parts (but only for my collection, not for resale)! I'll post a pic here of three of my ammonites, all three Montana finds that I found, two are the real deal, one is pieced (as I said for my own collection only).. Can you tell me "My Dixie Wrecked" which one is pieced and which two are the real deal? I'm sure Don can and James, maybe a few more if I know them like I think I do...LOL I'll be back to see how ya' did.... Great idea Don......Thumbs up

I could be wrong (probably am!), but I think it's the one on the left. It looks like the symmetry to the spiral is off. Fragments of different species/sizes used? Just a guess... Jean

Jean Correct, give that "gal" a cigar!!!!! The spiral is off(To much of an arch)(But this was my first try on doing this)(so was hit and miss) and its pieced with smaller fragments towards the top, with filler(ground up ammonite with hardener)..Same species though... As said before, not for resale, just something I like to do and is for my collection only!! Thumbs up I have about five more that I'm doing now on repairs....They will all stay in the family...
