I am looking for any links or information on The elusive Yellow cat petrified wood? It seems the more I look into this rare treasure the more confused I get. I have a general idea what is valid, and what is not. But am running into a lot of conflicting data. I am certain there are some folks out there claiming to have this specimen, and don't. I was in the Yellow cat flats area of Utah a few days ago. Made a valiant effort to find a piece for my display. Came back empty handed. Seen a lot of red agate, that I think people are calling Yellow cat. So now I am in the research mode trying to put together a information pack in the event I ever get back down that way again. Any help would be appreciated? Thanks

I have spent a LOT of time in the Yellow Cat area specifically looking for jaspagate rough. FWIW, the red and yellow "agate" is really jaspagate although you can find other agates in the area, most notably to me, pigeon blood agate. The red, yellow and blue jaspagate is really beautiful. While I've found some pet wood, most of what I've personally found isn't worth writing home about. I've heard from others that they have good specimens but I've not seen any. I would suspect that in order to find any, one has to go WAY off the beaten path, back into the hills away from the popular collecting areas and just hope for the best.

I see why you want to hound it. It's $250/lb on ebay. Almost $0.10 carat! sheesh!
