We found this about four years ago-seems to be the only fossil pic that I have on photobarrel or whatever right now. Guess I need to take some more pictures. [/URL] Not a great picture of a not great ammonite, but it's what I have for now.

Is it in limestone or sandstone...We have both while hunting fossils in Montana..The limestone is killer(Hard to work fossils out of it)!!! Nice looking ammonite..

That was in limestone, and yeah, that is some pretty solid stuff. Took over an hour to get it freed up, darn rock never wants to just split off the way you want it to, and there is always a fracture or crack to work around to avoid crumbling the whole thing. Lots of fun, though.

We usually cut a bigger square out beyond the fossil,than take it home to work the fossil out of the matrix...
