Did some rockhounding on my fav. part of the Willamette River yesterday and found some nice goodies.. Here is an unusual piece of petwood,with agate nodules encased in the divets.. Looks like it was half rotted before it petrified...

Mike, that may be a part of a large pine cone. If it wasn't petrified, I'd say Choya cactus wood.

Mike, that may be a part of a large pine cone. If it wasn't petrified, I'd say Choya cactus wood. Thats what I thought at first Don,but its petwood,the grains run like wood....Thumbs up

You've been hitting the Island across from Social Security Hole. I haven't been able to do that - yet. But, the bar there at Independence and Minto-Brown have been fun.

You've been hitting the Island across from Social Security Hole. I haven't been able to do that - yet. But, the bar there at Independence and Minto-Brown have been fun. No,not the Island by the "Social Security Hole",I have hunted the Park area,found some agates(fist sized)..Haven't been on the Island there yet,but know how to get there(When the river is low)... I did alot of hunting on the Island below the Independence Bridge and the gravel bars on the other side,plus the Riverside Park area in town.. Minto Park was great this year,with lots of Carmelian agates and green jaspers...
