Found in a tiny creek in north Florida. Been tumbling to remove coating so grading can be done. Close up of oyster. Some these can be heat treated with good color results Running about 35 pounds of this silicified hodge podge More skin to remove. They are silicified though. If no silicification is showing at this point they are rejected. coral mixed in with the oysters Silicified mangrove root castings. Growing with the oysters and the coral as they do today... Oyster. some weighed a pound. Oyster with sponge attack. This stuff is a cool gemstone when finished. I have no idea. A lot of stuff was unknown. Also found lots of pottery and heat treated coral chips from the ancients Please enjoy. Got more photos to add to this. Gotta get in the deer stand, 18F and getting ready to get cold shock!!

Thoroughly enjoyed indeed. Very cool oysters, interesting that they are varied in color too! Never seen agatized mangrove root before.

The mangrove has no structure so it should be a cast. The oysters took show layers and took on the same colored silica as the coral in about half of them. The other half a kinda colorless.

This is the target oysters that i am after. Sponge holes look cool. Cool cross section of oyster. Will look better when heated Another. This has few minerals so heat will do little except turn it cloudy white

Those are some very cool finds,James. Quite thought provoking. I never considered that the oyster shell would silicify but, if coral can do it I guess shell will too. Great stuff.

Thank you John. With all the palm. There was more oddities silicified at this creek. Like variation Carlos. This is the little creek. A highlad knoll probably covered w/coral, oysters, mangrove and other critters.

Oh Larry, those are the mangrove casts. They are not much lest they go wild from heat treatment. Just a total cast.

I am always amazed to see what Mother Nature has let us see our our past. Those are truly collectables, that's for sure. Thanks for finding, collecting, and sharing with the rest of us!

I am always looking for silicifications of any shell, conch ,snail. Got pics? These oysters cook right along w/coral. I found big oysters but they were not going to give enough size to knap much but bird points. I was curious if big clams and oysters existed.
