With the square ways in the diamond configuration most of the snot is washed off and doesn't build up. It can still be a problem for those who like to delay their saw cleaning till the oil has become a thick mud. My hydraulic 18 inch saw has square ways with bearings, personally I like the round rod with bronze bushings like a FranTom better.
Thanks for the link to the drop saw, seeing it solved a hydraulic issue I have been working on.
