Yesterday, I, yet again, fought with a big bezel setting. I don't know why I even tried other than being stubborn. When Pat said that the micro torch is not much good after the size of a quarter she wasn't kidding. I have found that copper is a little more friendly, but bigger silver pieces are just too much for the micro. I did get a good join around the bezel, but it was a lot of work. My left hand and arm were tired as hell. It left a big mess in the cup, which I don't yet have the tools to clean. I ordered some burrs from rio that should do the job, though. But, the bezel cup will only be for practice with these tools because the flippin' stone chipped when I did the 1000th test fit. Fluke accident- one in a million and just my luck. So, the new torch is coming from Jersey. It should only take a few days and with any luck, I'll be working with a new acetylene torch this weekend. Thanks for all the input about the torch. I feel really good about my decision.

Why don't you save the bezel & cut a new stone? Congrats on the new torch.

Tela, I've seen some Smithies use a mini torch in each hand when their silver piece was too big for the one torch. It works , but not my style. I prefer my Orca propane and ambient air torch for my bigger things. I seem to always need a spare hand for something !
Have fun with your new toy ! Pat

Good choice, you will be pleased with your purchase. Coming from Jersy I assume you got it from Cyberweld? If so they are great folks to deal with, I have bought quite a bit from them over the years. Happy Soldering!!!!

Why don't you save the bezel & cut a new stone? Congrats on the new torch. Rich Of course, that makes perfect sense. The stone was a freeform with 3 angles, so I doubt I would be able to get an exact fit. I will be using it as a practice piece and then trade in the silver.

My gas supply place has banking hours, so I probably won't be getting gas till at least Monday. I'm gonna get the gas guys to educate me as to the smell of acetylene. I know propane very well- or rather the additive, but I have never smelled acetylene or additive.
