Many years ago I believed I could "prove" my point of view using the scriptures. Then I ran into those that have 10-15 different translations and as soon as they were pinned down in one text, would drop that one and grab another.
I realized the futility of it all when one gentleman ripped a page from his Bible and said "That is not in my scriptures!"
I know a man whose parents were missionaries in China. He hates "All Organized Religions," and is doing everything he can to destroy them.
To my mind that is a waste of time. The more you persecute a religion, the stronger it gets. Apathy is what kills them. That is why chapels are empty all over Europe.

I am happy that earth was created. And thankful of it. Not sure about the logistics of how it was created. Can't help pondering on how earth, life and space got here. Something had to be responsible for creating it. opinion
Being of a science mind the God as described in the Bible made a point that caught my attention. The first thing he claimed to create was light in the 3rd verse of the Bible. And he he said he is light. Maybe he meant light as 'the way'. Light is about the most mysterious thing on earth(other than life). We don't even know if it is a particle or a wave form. Einstein calculated(they think)it's speed and figured time slows down when going that speed. what ? The universe is lit up by the distant stars making light everywhere. Light encompasses all the colors(of the spectrum). Which when mixed creates every color. God said he is everywhere. Maybe his claim of being light is how he accomplished that. If you turned the light off(the sun for instance) we would freeze to death in seconds. Because heat and light are associated. The most intense light is created by nuclear reactions, hmmm, powerful stuff. The sun is apparently a nuclear powered ball. We shot light at the moon and it took about 2 seconds to bounce back. About 185,000 miles to and fro. Light from stars takes millions/billions of light years to get here so they say. Say what? That is a long ways away. Maybe Mom dropped me on my head. But this subject has always mystified me. Far out subject. But an interesting claim to make(that i am light). Not trying to sell anything religious or divine. Just pondering this trademark.

Religion is a group that has rules in their church, you follow those rules, you do as the church has you do..... Christianity is having the faith to believe and trust in God,not a church or a group of people..... These are my opinions on the subject.... More ministers and pastors are breaking away from the wording of the "Holy Bible" and making their own rules in their church!!! Some are removing as The Holy Spirit and Virgin Mary from text! In my eyes, they are non-believers!(They are religious, but not true Christians)!!!
John 1 "1".....Luke 8 "5".....John 16 "13-14" (great verse)..... 2 Corinthians "6".....Galatians 5 "13"....
As said,my opinion,my belief.....
I love studying Christianity,I'm third generation with it running deep in our family....We have three ministers in our family, whom I'm very close to. We debate and study, never putting other beliefs down... As being a fossil hunter and other things involved with science,I feel that there is a mightier power over us,Evolution or Creation, both are taking in context to what you choose to believe in.. I do believe the time frame God has and our time frame we use in our lives are completely different in our reality, thousands and millions of years to us,could have been his one day-we don't know that, but its a theory..... Even in evolution, something or someone had to have started the process of life, being it even from a molecule or atom... History of Christianity is a mind full and I enjoy the studies of this subject........

I've pondered this subject since I was a teen. Growing up my family was LDS, my friends Lutheran, Baptist, JWs, etc. As an air-force brat, we moved a lot. I was startled how different different Baptist churches were! I wondered if I was a member of my church just because my parents were? That was when I began digging. I visited a lot of churches, talked to lots of ministers. To my mind, most of them were pretty shallow. At least, they didn't have answers to most of my questions, and tried to stick to their talking points, which were all different.
Then I got into Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, and so on. I never really got into Islam until after 9/11. Boy did I get politically incorrect on that one. I can't believe how naive the non-Muslim world is.
So far, science and my religion get along just fine. I see some disagreements here and there, but usually it is individual interpretations and theories in collision, not "reality."
Einstein concluded there was no time before the Big Bang. That is a theory. Everything out of nothing. I don't buy it.
What was the big bang? Could it have been God saying "Let there be Light? Sure! Scientifically, is there anything around to compare it to? Yes. The Big Bang was the expansion of a "singularity." Are there other singularities around? Yes, in the center of every galaxy AKA black holes.
So, a good answer to "where did everything come from?" is A Previous Universe. We are inside a black hole.
But all that has done is put off the question. Where did all that previous stuff come from?

This thread reminded me of a ditty my mother read to us from one of her magazines. Though inaccurate when one knows actual monkey behavior, still amusing, and a good point on some level. Was amazed to find it on the web.
The Monkey's (Evolution -- The Monkey's Viewpoint)
Three monkeys sat in a coconut tree Discussing things as they are said to be.
Said one to the others, "Now listen, you two, There's a rumor around that can't be true "That man descended from our noble race "The very idea is a great disgrace.
"No monkey has ever deserted his wife "Starved her babies and ruined her life "And you've never known a mother monk "To leave her babies with others to bunk
"Or pass from one on to another "Till they scarcely know who is their mother.
"And another thing you'll never see, A monk build a fence round a coconut tree, And let the coconuts go to waste, Forbidding all other monks to taste; Why, if I put a fence around a tree, Starvation will force you to steal from me!
"Here's another thing a monkey won't do "Go out at night and get on a stew. "Or use a gun or club or knife "To take some other monkey's life.
"Yes, man descended, the ornery cuss "But, brother, he didn't descend from us."

Cute, but the animal kingdom has as much riff-raff as any other collection of beings. Seals biting the fins off fish just for fun, love mad walruses crushing pups in their lust. Examples aren't hard to find.
